What kinds of things have you been eating during quarantine? Nutrition coach Robyn gives her professional take on Reddit’s weirdest diets. Get ready for the good, the bad and the ugly.
My Quarantine Diet Has Been…80% Smoothies
-Lavender infused oat milk
Sounds delicious to Robyn, especially the lavender-infused oat milk.
-Coconut water with pulp
Sounds good too.
Some healthy fats and a little bit of protein!
Yikes, pickles? Not sure about this one.
Do you have a go-to smoothie you like to make? Overall, fruit-based smoothies are great and this is a great time to trade ideas on smoothies (even if we're not sure about the pickle one.) Overall, Robyn gives smoothies a big thumbs up!
Issues from Quarantine Diet
This person has been eating more beans than usual, including homemade chili 2 days a week and baby carrots.
Robyn understands more people may be resorting on canned legumes. Suddenly increasing canned food intakes and fibre can cause an upset stomach. Here are some tips.
-Rinse your beans and let them soak for a bit
-Take a couple days for your body to adapt
-Try a more veggie centric approach
Egg and Wine Diet: Lose 5 pounds in 3 days (from a magazine in the 50s)
Comments from Reddit:
-I’m eating this way, I’m not losing any weight
For Robyn, the scary thing is if anyone does this diet and it works, they may start sharing it as a serious option. Overall, it is a limiting, restrictive diet that most people are educated enough to know is not a good idea.
How to keep your diet up when under quarantine
This original poster was down 26 pounds since December and now in May finds it hard to keep up with their diet.
Robyn says it’s definitely hard to stay on track when you have a lot more time. Oversnacking is common when bored. Here are some of her tips:
-Find the best approach for you, self-discipline or removing temptations
-Clear you pantry of snacks, if you can donate them that would be ideal
-Plan out your meals and snacking times
